Deputy Headteacher statement March 2022

Covid and Attendance at Weoley Castle Nursery School
We understand that the past two years have been very different from most years and the impact of the Covid pandemic has been vast. With this in mind, we know people can still be very nervous about returning to School fully. We have made sure we are taking extra precautions in all our classrooms, outdoor areas and communal areas across our sites. We have incorporated extra cleaning, hand sanitiser for all; given at regular intervals throughout the day and very clear guidance for all pupils around hygiene. This has become a very important focus each day, we want to support all children to learn good hygiene for the future. We hope that this reassures all our families that we are promoting good hygiene and levels of cleanliness, which in turn will promote good attendance from all our children. We aim to have 90% attendance for each individual pupil at Weoley Castle Nursery School, because this allows your child to access their full educational entitlement. The research proves if your child attends regularly they make far better progress across the Early years phase, which prepares them fully for Primary school. It is our policy to contact you when your child is absent if we haven't heard from you. If low attendance persists we will write to you and offer our support to improve your child's attendance. We do understand there will be lots of absence currently due to covid and isolation periods. Rest assured we will take this into account when contacting you. We hope we can work together to get all our pupils in school regularly, safely and happily.
